It’s been 30 years since Major League released. Every time I write something about a 10, 20 or 30 year anniversary, I feel ancient. There is no denying that Major League is still a classic sports movie. The Cleveland Indians were a team in the dumps (they are much better these days) so in order to move them to Florida (where in reality nobody watches and wants to play baseball) they must tank the season away (how NBA of them).
A group of misfit oddballs unites to create baseball magic. Charlie Sheen (back when he wasn’t THIS Charlie Sheen), Wesley Snipes, Tom Berenger and Rene Russo lead the way on-screen. What I love about this movie is that you don’t even need to like or know baseball to enjoy it. It actually seems to be made for a casual movie watcher. The characters are so oddly unique and outrageously fun.
You really have to pick up a Blu-ray or DVD of this film. It has a few featurettes included also.
