COCAINE GODMOTHER: THE GRISELDA BLANCO STORY

Catherine Zeta-Jones plays a drug lord. Yup, you heard that right. She’s no stranger to crime dramas about drug distributors, just look at her performance in Traffic. In Cocaine Godmother, she plays one of Miami’s most notorious drug dealers, Griselda Blanco. The film debut on Lifetime network initially, and now it’s out on DVD.

This was a good role for Zeta-Jones. Sure, there have been complaints that they should have had a Latina actress play this role, and that’s warranted, but Zeta-Jones does really good work. She’s fierce and intimidating, even her accent is solid. Surprisingly, the movie is fairly gritty for a Lifetime production. Before Pablo Escobar and El Chapo, there was Griselda. This movie gives you a good idea of how powerful she was while delivering a compelling story at the same time.
