A real nice mix of classic Hollywood greats and new young stars. The film stars Burt Reynolds and Chevy Chase. Reynolds plays a famous actor whose career is behind him and he’s trying to hold onto the glory days that made him a household name. He is invited to accept a Lifetime Achievement Award from a Nashville film festival.
What I enjoyed about this film is how it combines humor with this real introspective sense to it. Reynolds and Chase have some talented young performers in supporting roles, with Ariel Winter and Boyhood’s Ellar Coltrane. Winter adds some spunk. She’s a great contrast to Reynold’s character.
Even though the main character is a former star struggling with holding onto his glory days, this can be applied to any situation where aging is the factor. It’s tough to age and not be able to do things you used to, this film explores that concept of the feeling of being forgotten and fighting for that relevance and being noticed.
