You’d think that a concept of a horror movie based on an escape room would have been done multiple times before, but not quite. Fortunately, Will Wernick directs this intriguing and suspenseful mystery horror and leaves you wanting more. This is a smartly crafted and executed movie that leans more on the suspense than the horror. A group of friends decide to go to an escape room to celebrate a birthday party, but that escape room isn’t what it appears to be. I really appreciated that the story takes place nearly in real time, as far as the 60 minute escape room adventure goes. As an audience member you’re side-by side navigating through the room with the actors. It’s as clever and thought-provoking horror movie as you’ll see this Halloween season, if not, in all of this year.
