THE VANISHING OF SIDNEY HALL:
One of the better mystery dramas of 2018 is this film. A terrific cast lead by Logan Lerman who plays (Sidney Hall) a brilliant young writer who gains fame and then mysteriously disappears. The story goes back and forth in time and follows Hall’s unexpected rise and high school romance, all the way to his mysterious disappearance years later. Kyle Chandler and Elle Fanning play intricate supporting characters.
This movie is so interesting and had my attention, even though at times it is a little hard to follow with the back and forth switching timelines. Ironically, to me it plays out a bit like a novel. Very few actors can shine and take on the life of one character at three different stages of his characters life, but Logan Lerman does it flawlessly. Writer and director Shawn Christensen crafts this movie so intricately. Every scene matters and has a purpose. The characters are all given a life of their own to disclose and uncover. Well written and directed with crisp cinematography. The twists and turns always lead to a payoff and don’t leave you disappointed. There isn’t a reason you shouldn’t see The Vanishing of Sidney Hall.
