SCREENED OUT:

Jon Hyatt’s startling look at the societal addiction to screens. Phones, computers and electronic devices are running our lives in many ways and Hyatt wants you to pause and take notice. Hyatt introduces the viewer to several professional experts who break down the data and analysis on how these screens are unspoken addictions that are right in front of us (no pun intended).

I found this documentary to be very informative and interesting. We are in a digital age where social media and our phones are a life necessity. Imagine when you don’t have your phone in possession for a day, how crippling it might feel? I know it would for me. Hyatt attempts to present a compelling case on why we should step away and start thinking about the impact devices have on our lives and how they impact the way we go about them.

As with the previous documentary I recommended in this article (2040), just as Damon Gameau made it a personal story for his daughter, Hyatt does something similar by involving his family in the film as part of his message, and they provide an example how close to home (no pun intended, again) this issue hits.

I highly recommend Screened Out as a reminder to focus on our interpersonal communication more and be cautious of the message corporations and businesses try to hook us with through these devices. Truth is, many of us, including myself, are addicted to these devices on a global scale, and as beneficial as they might be in certain aspects they also cause damage.

‘SCREENED OUT’ released on May 26 and is available On Demand and iTunes
