AMERICAN ANIMALS:

Where do I even start with this movie? It’s crazy that this is based on a true story. It’s a story about four young (foolish) guys, who attempt a heist of some valuable books. This is a theft gone completely wrong, with big time amateurs, not having a clue what they are doing. That combo amounts to a major mess. They are trying to steal books from a library?! You get the idea.

This film makes you constantly shake your head in awe and disbelief. How inept can a group of criminals be? Well, these clowns demonstrate why and how. It’s very entertaining though. No doubt this plot and story will have you engaged throughout, waiting on the next misstep the thieves make. I really liked how you get the narration and cut-away testimonials from the actual men involved. It’s a great way of presenting the film and making it authentic and believable of what you’re seeing on screen actually was attempted.

Nice work from some good young actors, Evan Peters and Barry Keoghan to name a couple. The film is well-crafted by writer-director Bart Layton and you don’t miss a beat with the back-and-forth narration and plot reveals. This isn’t your standard heist story. It’s as much comedic as it is a dramatic.
