Must See Early January Blu-ray Releases

Welcome 2018, lets hope you have a lot of great releases in store for us. The first week of January offers some of my personal favorites of 2017. So check out the following movies that are finally out on Blu-ray and VOD.

AMERICAN MADE:

This was probably my favorite movie of 2017. An incredible true story of Barry Seal, a real-life pilot turned drug runner turned government spy. Yes, this man ruled the 1980’s, and no very few knew about it. Tom Cruise is fantastic as Seal, he brings the Cruise charm, energy, but also an authentic side you don’t get to see in his films often. This is one of those films that’s so entertaining and insane from start to finish that you keep thinking if all of this could have possibly been real? A little tidbit, the drug dealer that Seal is a runner for is none other than Pablo Escobar. Just one of the many twists and crazy turns you’ll witness that you never knew about happening. If you liked movies like The Wolf of Wall Street and War Dogs, then this is a definite must-see movie for you.

Must See Movies of the Week (12/19)

It’s Christmas week! Many of you are running out and getting last minute presents. Well I’m here to help out. Here are this weeks must-see movie recommendations that would also be ideal stocking stuffer gifts. This week’s movie pics offer a nice variety of selections.

DUNKIRK:

After a few years away from the big screen, director Christopher Nolan returned with the jaw-dropping war epic, Dunkirk. The World War II battle of Dunkirk didn’t get much mention mainstream (at least in America) as a significant event, but this movie is certain to give you a new perspective and education. The way Nolan encapsulated the scale and magnitude of this event is remarkable. The visuals are top-notch. The terrific ensemble of actors includes the vastly underrated Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, along with a surprise debut from singer Harry Styles, whose actually alright in the movie.

There is a lot that this movie offers. Spectacular sights, incredible storytelling, fantastic directing and good acting. The score is also to behold. There is no reason not to see Dunkirk, which will be a frontrunner in many categories during awards season, certainly to include a Best Picture nomination.

Find out why Dunkirk would be a perfect stocking stuffer gift

Dunkirk is out now on Ultra HD Blu-ray, Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital HD

Movies of the Week

We are itching closer to Christmas and there are plenty of selections leading up to it. This weeks recommendations offers a romantic comedy, a gory horror and a season of a series to remember. Check out these potential stocking stuffers.

HOME AGAIN:

Romantic comedies and Reese Witherspoon go together like milk and cookies, a natural combination. In Home Again, Witherspoon plays a recently separated woman moves back to her hometown with her two daughters. Soon after she meets three young filmmakers who need a place to live, so naturally she lets them stay at her guest house. A lot of drama and romance ensue and the ex-husband comes back into the picture to muddy the waters even more. I like that there is a modern feel to this movie. It’s entirely feasible this is a situation that isn’t farfetched, especially where the story is set, Los Angeles.

Witherspoon is a natural in these sort of romantic comedy roles and the movie has enough witty banter to keep you laughing and engaged. Sometimes starting over isn’t as easy as it looks like, but this movie makes it fun.

BONUS FEATURE on BLU-RAY™, DVD and digital
  • Feature Commentary with writer/director Hallie Meyers-Shyer and producer Nancy Meyers

Must See Releases of the Week

The holiday season is off and rolling and we are just a few weeks away from Christmas. The week of December 5 offers a nice variety of Blu-ray/DVD, VOD and limited theatrical releases you should check out.

STRONGER:

Jake Gyllenhaal has taken on some intriguing roles and turned out some fantastic performances, but the one that may get him that Oscar nod could be for playing Jeff Bauman, a survivor of the Boston Marathon bombing. This film is inspiring and personal. The story centers around Bauman’s recovery and fight to overcome all obstacles that face him after losing both of his legs in the bombings. Bauman’s will and no quit attitude is greatly depicted by Gyllenhaal. The film gives a unique first-person account of the terror of the bombings and the aftermath of individual struggle imposed by the events of the bombings. This is a must see film with terrific acting, engaging story, and lots of heart. Check out the story of this courageous man that had to face some improbable obstacles and be inspired.

Stronger releases on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand on December 19

Must See Movies This Week

The last week of November and start of December offer some solid releases heading into the holiday season. This week offers a wide array of Blu-ray/DVD, VOD and limited theatrical releases. The following are this weeks recommended releases you should see:

LOGAN LUCKY:

Very few have had a career growth that rivals that of Channing Tatum and Adam Driver. Tatum has tackled a variety of eccentric and against type roles, while Driver has established himself a versatile actor that can do a lot more than comedy. Both of these men star in the outrageous and entertaining Logan Lucky (not to be confused with Logan the X-Men character movie released earlier this year). In the movie Tatum and Driver play two oddball trailer-trash brothers that attempt to pull off a heist during a NASCAR race. Don’t be swayed by the premise, these characters are very engaging. Add a bleach blond haired Daniel Craig into a mix and you really have something you haven’t seen before. This is one obscure crime comedy drama that is a must-see. Driver, Tatum and Craig blaze a trail unmatched by any NASCAR ride.

Logan Lucky is out now on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand
