Summer is here and the theaters are loaded with major releases, but don’t forget about the home entertainment movies. There are some must-see releases for the month of July that you can’t miss. Here is scrolling slideshow list of some of the titles you should be checking out.
It can be argued that there is no better and more compelling show out there than Yellowjackets. it’s one of the most talked about series and a popular water cooler topic of conversation. Melanie Lynskey, Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis lead this riveting show. It’s mysterious, terrifying and it even has a sense of humor in the ten episodes of season one. It’s like a horror version of “Lost” in wilderness. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg of what happens. YELLOWJACKETS: SEASON ONE is out on DVD on July 19 The duo of Channing Tatum and Sandra Bullock is pure gold. The chemistry and comedy is undeniable. This movie has all the elements of a jungle adventure of a lifetime with ancient tombs, gold, artifacts, etc. Bullock’s “Loretta Sage” is kidnapped by an obsessed billionaire. Leave it to Tatum’s “Alan” to come to the rescue. The search for the lost city is fun-filled, entertaining and hilarious. Star-studded cast and a great cameo by none other than Brad Pitt. THE LOST CITY is out on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on July 26 The Belcher’s went from the small screen to the big screen and now you can see it on the small screen again, or any big screen that you own. The story for The Bob’s Burgers Movie centers on a sinkhole right outside of Bob’s Burgers! No entrance to the restaurant means, no income and ruined summer! Fans of the show know how funny Bob’s Burgers is. The Belcher’s are all individually unique and relatable. Thing of the film as one big episode. It’s entertaining and hilarious. All your favorite characters are in the film. It’s a grand size Bob’s Burgers deluxe, super-sized fun! THE BOB’S BURGERS MOVIE is out This film was a big surprise to many on how will it would perform at the box office and the acclaim it received. All deservingly so, it’s terrific. Michelle Yeoh kicks-ass and must save the world through a multiverse of timelines. It’s fun, badass and entertaining. Yeoh is the glue of the film and does an outstanding job in a role previously hard to envision her playing. The movie comes in at nearly 140 minutes so it’s rather lengthy, but it’s fun and the time flies, so don’t let that deter you. EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE is out on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital as of July 5th Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are on a mission to stop an alien race. The problem for Major William Cage (Cruise) is that he is trapped in a never ending death loop. Will he finally breakthrough and evolve so that he can defeat the enemy and stop living out his life in repeat? First time I saw the film I loved the concept of it. It’s taken the death loop theme and it’s applied to a sci-fi action thriller, instead the usual horror it’s been used on. Two megastar lead actors with a great supporting cast, there isn’t much not to like about this film. One of Cruise’s underrated blockbuster hits. It’s finally released on 4K and this is exactly the way this movie should be seen, in superb resolution and sound. EDGE OF TOMORROW is out on 4K UHD Blu-ray Combo Pack and Digital as of July 5th This WWII action thriller sees pilot David Holden (James Maslow) shot down in enemy Nazi territory. He is tasked with a giant responsibility of stopping the Nazi and their bomb scheme. The visual sequences are solid. Maslow and Trevor Donovan play against each other well. It’s amped up with action and explosions. It’s an entertaining watch. It’s easy to root for a hero good guy in a battle against the evil Nazi Axis. WOLF HOUND is out On Demand, Digital, Blu-ray and DVD A new era has arrived at Downton Abbey. The second Downton film sees the Crawleys host a silent film being shot in Downton. Meanwhile the mystery of Dowager Countess is being explored by some of the family members vacationing in the south of France. Fans of Downton Abbey know what to expect from the characters, mainly laughs, drama and some tears. There is a reason why Downton Abbey has such a loyal and passionate following, this movie reflects all that is loved about this franchise. DOWNTON ABBEY: A NEW ERA is out on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on July 5th Paramount+ Original comedy series Star Trek Lower Decks is back. Season two of the hilarious animated show is better than ever. More laughs and Trekkie adventures. Expect plenty of those sci-fi missions, but competition on the ship intensifies as promotions are at stake. Captain Carol Freeman and the group faces some upheaval. The Blu-ray and DVD includes over an hour of special features. STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS – SEASON TWO is out on Blu-ray and DVD on July 12 Christina Ricci stars in this terrifying horror. Ricci plays a mother who flees town from her abusive ex with her young daughter by her side. They find themselves in a quiet farmhouse. Instead of escaping terror at home, the mother and daughter face a new kind of horror they didn’t expect. I thought this was a really solid horror. It has legitimate scares and chills. The visuals are eerie, which enhances the goosebumps as you watch. Monstrous is what an under-the-radar movie is all about. MONSTROUS is out on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on July 5th Looks like a nice weekend getaway doesn’t always end promising. That’s what the characters in Mid-Century are faced with. An ER doctor and her husband rent a mid-century home (hence the name of the film) only to find out the previous owner and his wives (yes wives) died in the home. But their spirits haven’t! Add the fact the creepy son is lurking. This is a fun horror thriller. Very good cast with Bruce Dern, Shane West and Stephen Lang. Some solid twists also. MID-CENTURY is out on Digital, On Demand, Blu-ray and DVD on July 26
Don’t miss any of these fantastic July titles. You can watch them all from the comfort of your home. There is something there for everyone.
