Just because movies aren’t playing in many theaters and there is a lack of new releases doesn’t mean you aren’t seeing releases on Blu-ray and DVD. Movies are releasing weekly for home entertainment viewing. I compiled a list of solid new releases and some under-the-radar ones that you should check out.

STAR TREK: PICARD:

One of the most beloved space captains is back in a new original series. Picard delivers 10 wildly entertaining episodes of season one of the CBS All Access show. Most importantly, the iconic Patrick Stewart is back to spearhead the show as executive producer and star as Jean-Luc Picard.

The show focuses on Picard and his crew. It’s a must-see for any Trekkie. It’s a lot of fun and I enjoyed it. Without Stewart it probably wouldn’t have worked, but with him on-board it’s exactly what you’d hope to see from Picard in a modern updated presentation.

Synopsis: Star Trek: Picard features Sir Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role as Jean-Luc Picard, which he played for seven seasons on Star Trek: The Next Generation. At the end of the 24th Century, and 14 years after his retirement from Starfleet, Jean-Luc Picard (Sir Patrick Stewart) is living a quiet life on his vineyard, Chateau Picard. When he is sought out by a mysterious young woman, Dahj (Isa Briones), in need of his help, he soon realizes she may have personal connections to his own past. The new series will follow this iconic character into the next chapter of his life.
