AMERICAN FOLK:
A film that brings together music, hope and the power of the human spirit. Elliott (Joe Purdy) and Joni (Amber Rubarth) are strangers that meet on a flight and are forced together due to the events of September 11. Together they journey cross-country from LA to New York and encounter people from all walks and bond through folk music. This movie really waves the flag for unity. The spirit that these characters have after the horrors of 9/11 and the kindness they shared.
Even though for plot purposes the characters travel across the country, it’s that symbolism and the people they encounter along the way which makes it a real journey. Purdy and Rubarth have very good chemistry on-screen and are enjoyable to watch. Music can heal a lot and this movie doesn’t shy away from incorporating it along with a genuine romance between the two leads.
