Spring Home Entertainment Releases
Spring is in full bloom and this time of year has some great titles from the beginning of 2023. Among the selections of spring releases we have the tiniest of superheroes making a return. A bear on heavy drugs? A doll you don’t want to own. Plus some classic movie sets releasing in 4K. Plus, much more. Take a look at the best of spring 2023.
There is little that Gerard Butler can’t do on-screen. Add ass-kicking pilot to the mix. Plane is a high-octane action thriller that has you strapped into your seat (pun intended). Butler and Mike Coulter team-up to deliver all the thrills you can want. This is the kinda fun-popcorn flick you can enjoy and feel good about the time invested. I ended up liking this film a lot more than I expected to, which is always a pleasant surprise. It’s got a good storyline, great action and fun performances. PLANE is out now on 4K UHD, Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and On Demand. Knock at the Cabin is chilling. It’s a thriller that manages to keep you constantly on edge. It’s tension packed due to the unpredictability of the plot and what happens scene to scene. M. Night Shyamalan does some of his best work here in building intrigue and suspense that locks you in till the final scene. There is also some interesting societal commentary in the story. One of the better thrillers of 2023 and a thought-provoking one at that. There are six bonus features that includes deleted scenes. KNOCK AT THE CABIN releases on May 9 on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD. Also currently available on Digital and Peacock Truly a knockout of a collectors set. All four of the classic Rock films in 4K for the first time ever. This is exactly the version we needed for this iconic franchise. Add to the set is the special Rocky vs Drago directors cut. This is a must-have set for any fan of the franchise. The remastered picture and sound is at an elite-level is a cherry on top of the cake. This is a great set and the Drago cut is excellent. ROCKY I-IV 4K 4-FILM COLLECTION is out now on 4K UHD Blu-ray Combo Pack and Digital The original superhero franchise before it was all cool and trendy. Christopher Reeve was and always will be the original Superman. Now you can experience a collectors set of all four films in 4K for the first time. Besides the remastered look and sound and a bunch of bonus features, the set includes a special Richard Donner cut of Superman II. That alone is worth the purchase. Superman fans, this is a must-own, but generally it’s a fantastic collectors set. SUPERMAN 1978 – 1987 5-FILM COLLECTION is out now on 4K UHD Blu-ray Combo Pack and Digital Nominated for multiple Oscars, including Best Picture. This is one of the best war films in recent memory. Fantastic cinematography and directing. Incredible debut by lead actor Felix Kammerer. The first time a German movie has been nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. Deservingly so. It’s fantastic filmmaking all-around. Visually, sound, acting and storytelling. ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT is available now on as a 2-disk limited collector’s edition media book (UHD-Blu-ray + Blu-ray) Woody Harrelson stars in this feel-good crowd pleasing comedy about a down-on-the-outs basketball coach that takes over a team of intellectually disabled individuals. Harrelson’s recent films have been dark dramas, but this one was a pleasant switch for him. It’s a movie that’s enjoyable and easy to root for. There are several laugh-out-loud moments in it also. It’s sweet and funny, which to me is always a winning combo (pun-intended). The Blu-ray comes with five special features including 12 deleted scenes. CHAMPIONS is out now on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital and streaming on Peacock Time to step into a new realm. That’s exactly what Ant-Man does as he faces-off against his toughest nemesis, Kang. The duel is fun to watch and Kang is a fun villain. Quantumania brings out all the fireworks. It’s action-packed. Good comedic bits and lots of entertainment value. All your favorite Ant-Man characters make appearances and Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton) makes her mark on the franchise. Bonus content includes a Gag Reel, Deleted Scenes and two Featurettes. ANT-MAN & THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA is out now on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital It’s the last dance for Magic Mike and he goes out in style. The trilogy comes to an end for Channing Tatum with this more matured version of Magic Mike. Less sex and drugs, but still hot and boasting some slick dance moves. Salma Hayek joins the Tatum for the dance (literally and figuratively) and it adds a new beat to the franchise. I enjoyed Last Dance, it had the Magic Mike spirit, but was a movie of its own individuality. Star power at the top with Hayek and Tatum was enough to grab and keep your attention, they did mine. Fans of the franchise will enjoy it and should be satisfied with the outcome. There are two special features, Magic Mike’s New Moves and a Deleted Scene. MAGIC MIKE’S LAST DANCE is out now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Cocaine Bear is absolutely wild. A gorefest with f-bombs and crazy intense action. It’s also hilarious. It’s a blast to watch. The plot seems utterly ridiculous and it is, but it’s also based on true events, which makes it even more ridiculous. This was one of the most fun and entertaining movie experiences I had this year. Guranteed to keep you glued to the screen while debating everything you’re seeing on it’s legitimacy. A total “hoot” of a film. Kudos to the actors for keeping their characters on maximum energy at all times, and Keri Russell was an unexpected great choice. The ‘Maximum Rampage Edition’ of the film includes a bunch of bonus content including, Deleted and Extended Scenes, Gag Reel and Alternate Ending. COCAINE BEAR is out now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Who would have imagined a quiet Irish countryside could have unwelcome terrors ready to welcome you. In Unwelcome a young couple played by Hannah John-Kamen and Douglas Booth moves into a home that’s occupied by killer goblins (sounds comedic, but it’s actually chilling). Colm Meaney also stars. I thought the look of the film and scares were solid. Good performances by the actors. Some interesting twists along the way. The movie and premise could have spiraled out of control into a spoof comedy, but it doesn’t with this film. This is a solid horror thriller that surprised me in a good way. Gory, bloody and entertaining. Who knew goblins were this devious? UNWELCOME releases on Blu-ray and DVD on May 9 She might look cute and friendly, but she’s anything but that. M3gan is a killer, no pun intended. She’s a modern AI engineered child-companion doll. Her “creator” Gemma (Allison Williams) is pressured into finishing the doll ahead of schedule and the consequences are irreversible. Devious dolls are a great horror concept, just look at the staying power of Chucky over the years, I do also like the added modern twist of the artificial intelligence element of it. M3gan is an entertaining, spooky and intriguing watch. It has definite potential for a franchise and a memorable villainous character with potential. Sounds to me like a successful formula and a film that had my attention. A New Vision of Horror, Getting Hacked and Bringing Life to M3gan are the three special featurettes. M3GAN the theatrical and unrated versions are available now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Shazam! He’s back. Zachary Levi is back as Shazam and he’s bringing some friends with him. The follow-up to the successful original is just as fun with all the action and heart that the first one had. I really enjoy the humor in this franchise, it’s one of the more fun superhero franchises. The Blu-ray is stacked with bonus content, so don’t miss out on that. SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS arrives on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on May 23 To call Creed III the best film of the trilogy speaks volumes, but it actually is. The head-to-head showdown between friends turned foes, as Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis takes on Jonathan Majors’ Damian. One has all to lose and the other has nothing to lose. What a great contrast of characters so different, yet so alike. I thought this film had the best and most intriguing storyline of the trilogy. The inclusion of Majors added a dynamic new element and a very viable opposition to the Adonis character. The Blu-ray includes three interesting bonus features including deleted scenes. CREED III arrives on 4K UHD, Blu-ray and DVD on May 23
