Welcome to 2023. The start of the year has options for everyone. From superhero flicks to demonic horrors. Here are the January must-see releases on Blu-ray and digital.
Dwayne Johnson makes his superhero debut. Black Adam is a force. An anti-hero with epic powers. Johnson is the perfect Black Adam, he is the embodiment of the character, both visually and characteristically. This film was a action thrill ride. Tons of big and explosive scenes. This film was very entertaining and exciting. The CGI is impressive. The visuals are striking. Black Adam is just a badass. This one one of the better DC films to date. The film has several fun bonus features, so don’t miss them. BLACK ADAM is out on 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital on January 3rd. Prey for the Devil is a movie that will stay with you. It’s a well constructed exorcism horror. I appreciated the moderness of it. An excellent performance from the lead Jacqueline Byers, who plays the first nun to perform an exorcism (in a film). I found the film to be tension packed, intriguing and genuinely chilling. Good plot, direction and a fresh take on a subject that’s gotten too predictable and stale. There are also several bonus features worth checking out: Possessed: Creating Prey for the Devil, A Lullaby of Terror, The Devil’s Tricks: Visual Effects, Prey for the Devil Cast-Read: The Original First-Draft Screenplay, Speak No Evil: A Real Exorcist and Church Psychologist Discuss Possession. PREY FOR THE DEVIL is out on 4K UHD Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, Digital and On Demand on January 3rd Traditions, marriage, divorce and family drama. Father of the Bride has it all. The comedy stars Andy Garcia and Gloria Estefan. The plot centers on their daughter Sofia (Adria Arjona) announcing a surprise engagement, while Billy (Garcia) and Ingrid (Estefan) plan to announce their divorce. Enter the groom’s family into the the equation and a whole other game of pride and one-upmanship explodes as cultures clash. I was entertained watching this film. Good cast and lots of drama. FATHER OF THE BRIDE is out now on DVD The Menu is tantalizing. A unique plot idea that offers plenty of appetizing (no pun intended) intrigue. Featuring a tremendous cast lead by Nicholas Hoult, Anya Taylor-Joy, Ralph Fiennes. It’s one of these movies that keeps you on-edge and wondering where it’s ultimately headed. The twists and turns keep coming and I’ll probably view a dinner invite with some skepticism going forward haha. I’d recommend checking out the bonus features that includes deleted scenes and a look inside the film feature. THE MENU is out on Digital on January 3rd
