As we head into the summer season, the final weeks of spring offer some huge home entertainment movie releases. We have superheroes, video games turned movies, Oscar nominees and plenty of mega stars. Here is a look at the best of spring.
The BEST Spidey movie to date! That’s saying a lot, considering there have been three separate Spider-Man franchises with nearly approaching 10 movies already. The last one we get to see is the best of them all. No Way Home takes us on a thrilling ride. It’s as fantastic an end to chapter as you can get. The past meets the present. Nostalgia galore. The amount of talent and characters appearing is ridiculously salivating. This movie is still being talked about since it’s theatrical release. I don’t even want to spoil any details, but you have to see it and get it for the amazing extra features. It has 7 behind-the-scenes featurettes plus more! SPIDER-MAN: NO WAY HOME is out now on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital One of the best and most satisfactory films of the year. The Batman was all you could imagine and more. It’s Batman done right. Credit to director Matt Reeves and stars Robert Pattinson and Zoe Kravitz. A take on the Caped Crusader that we haven’t seen before. It’s mysterious, more of a psychological thriller than it is a “superhero” movie. Fantastic story, performances and audio visuals. A new saga of the Batman has arrived and it’s a must-watch. The Blu-ray bonus features ares spectacular and plenty interesting. THE BATMAN is out now on 4K, Blu-ray, DVD, Digital and HBO Max. I’m a big Channing Tatum fan, as many of you are. He’s done some fun roles over the years, but this might be the most enjoyable role and film he’s done. The bond her forms with the dog in the film makes it one of the best buddy movies out there. Based on true events, it’s a film that will make you laugh and cry. It’s mostly Tatum and “Lulu” (the dog) on-screen on their travel adventure. It’s kinda a travel adventure movie also. Dog hits the feels. DOG is out now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital. Spider-Man and Mark Wahlberg? Yes! Tom Holland and Wahlberg unite in the this epic action-adventure. Based on the Uncharted video game series. The film brings the popular video game character Nathan Drake and his companion “Sully” on a continental chase to recover a 500 year old lost fortune! There is a little bit of everything in the film, heist, adventure, action, humor and lots of fun. If you’re a fan of the game, you’ll definitely enjoy the movie version. Games are hard to successfully transfer to movies. Many have tried and failed, but not with Uncharted. It succeeds and feels as if you completed all the levels and got the end prize. The film comes with six cool featurettes, so check them out also and see how they made the game come to life. UNCHARTED is out now on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital. Turn-off the lights cause the badass named Liam Neeson is coming! The man who is the definition of action star is back for another ass-kicking, taking names and leaving no prisoners flick. Blacklight is what you expect from a Neeson movie, a popcorn flick that you lay back and enjoy as he takes care of the baddies, amid conspiracies. Sometimes knowing what you get is the most comforting and satisfying. This is what you get with this film. Neeson doing what he does best. BLACKLIGHT is out now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital. Food and sex not a bad combo, right? The movie offers three stories that are connected to food…and sex. It paints food and eating in a sexual way. It’s sort of a dark exploration on the subject matter of food and sex. A mixture of twisted perversion and genius originality. Weird in a good way. It’s unique in it’s own way. A movie that you need to see to fully experience. I should mention that it’s a Japanese film with English subtitles. That shouldn’t stop you from putting it on your must-see list. SEXUAL DRIVE is out now on DVD, VOD and Digital. If you’ve seen a movie from the V/H/S franchise, you have an idea for the horrors you’re in for. This time around the police discover a VHS tape that traces a cult, but that’s only the start of the conspiracy. I love the retro look of the film combing with the short segments that the plot is delivered in. So you’re getting multiple perspectives from talented up-and-coming filmmakers. I liked the multiple viewpoints coming together to make this movie come alive. (pun intended). V/H/S/94 is out now on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital and VOD. The Donovan legacy is still alive and well. The Donovans are lured back their Boston roots. The question the film poses is the family gonna stick together or fall apart? It’s great to see Ray Donovan back after a successful series run. The movie is a must-see for a fan of the series, it’s done right. There is potential for more with this and maybe even another show revival or movie down the line. This is Liev Schreiber’s greatest work as an actor, his most memorable character. That’s saying a lot. RAY DONOVAN: THE MOVIE is out now on DVD. The darling of awards season, Licorice Pizza, is now out for home viewing. Paul Thomas Anderson’s indie hit introduces us to new stars in Alana Haim and Cooper Hoffman. The movie is funny, charming and memorable. The characters feel very authentic. It’s a relatable coming-of-age story that’s fitting to the era and characters. Young love can be messy, the film certainly illustrates that, but in a picturesque way. LICORICE PIZZA is out now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital. Umma (“mother” in Korean) is not a warm and fuzzy feel-good story. More like a haunting return of an estranged mother that might just take over your soul. That’s a loose premise of this film. Sandra Oh plays the lead role and does a great job in it. There are plenty of chilling moments that will have you looking around. This is a suspenseful horror film that’s crafted with intrigue and leaving you with some goosebumps. It’s more of a gothic horror. Produced by Sam Raimi, a man who knows a thing or two about keeping you on edge. UMMA is out now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital.
