Movie Pick of the Day: Freaks

The title doesn’t quite disclose what this movie is all about. This sci-fi horror boasts a talented cast and an intriguing storyline. 7-year-old Chloe is kept inside and away from the outside world. Is her father a paranoid control freak or is he trying to protect his child from danger? Well, Chloe gets out and witnesses the bizarre, fascinating and scary world she hasn’t been exposed to.

This film reminded me of Cloverfield. It had a similar aura about it. Clearly it’s a low-budget indie production, but the special effects are very well executed and presented. The film has a strong cast of talent that includes Emile Hirsch, Bruce Dern and Amanda Crew.

The film delivers the intrigue with twists and turns. This film makes you think about what’s being what is actually happening and allows you to make your own interpretation on the characters and story. Freaks is a really solid under-the-radar sci-fi thrill ride.

Bonus Features:

  • Directors’ Commentary
  • Behind the Scenes
  • French Subtitles Available
  • Trailers

FREAKS is available now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital
