THE YELLOW BIRDS:

Ty Sheridan, Alden Ehrenreich and Jack Huston star in this war drama about friendship and grief. The story takes place during the times of the Iraq War, the bond between two young soldiers, Brandon Bartle (Ehrenreich) and Daniel Murphy (Sheridan) and their struggle being part of the war. While there are war elements we are used to seeing in movies of this kind, it focuses less on the battles, but more on the personal relationships between these young soldiers.

I felt the film depicted an interesting perspective from the soldiers point of view, which centered on their uncertainty and confusion of why they are part of the war. Their desire not to be there is a big part of their struggle. Sheridan, Huston and Ehrenreich do a fine job portraying this emotionally tortured soldiers. Jennifer Aniston and Toni Collette play grief stricken mothers back home.

This is a film about the emotional introspective side of the war. The final scenes of the movie are quite powerful and emotional. The final scene is even a bit chilling. This is a well-made film from director Alexandre Moors, based on a best-selling novel by Kevin Powers.
