Digital/Blu-ray Movie Pick of the Week: Birds of Prey and the Emancipation of One Harley Quinn

Ok, I know, the title is pretty long, but the movie hits the mark. Many of us been hoping for a standalone Harley Quinn movie and we get it with Birds of Prey. Margot Robbie reprises her role as Harley.

With no Joker in sight (she broke up with Joker **cough **cough Jared Leto’s disappearance, see: Joaquin Phoenix), Harley finds herself a new badass girl gang. Enter, The Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez) and Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) as Quinn’s new sidekicks.

The girl gang is after crime lord Roman Sionis (Ewan McGregor). McGregor goes all in on his wacky villain persona. Robbie does her best and goes all-out.

Birds of Prey is a high-octane action-packed movie. Tons of blowups and shootouts, car chases, it has it all when it comes to action. The plot could have been better, but given the characters and circumstances it’s solid. It earns its R rating, as it’s packed with F-bombs and some gore.

Fans of Robbie, DC Universe and action popcorn flicks, this movie is for you!
