Playing With Fire feels very much like a throwback to the 90’s kids comedies. That’s actually a good thing. We have gone away from the simple enjoyable family and kid comedies that some of us grew up with. This is a silly and fun film that’s lighthearted, yet the main characters (firefighters) are a good crew that you can easily root for.
John Cena, John Leguizamo and Keegan-Michael Key star as three firefighters who rescue three sibling kids from a wildfire. Seems like a great thing, but the problem for these firemen come to face is locating the children’s parents, while having to contain the wild kids from taking over the firehouse.
Lots of potty and slapstick humor that will get some chuckles out of anyone. Cena is liked by kids worldwide since his WWE days and shows why he’s so likeable. Bonus, a big, cute slobbery dog appears in the film also.
We have seen how brave and amazing many of these firefighters are with the recent fires in California. Nice to have them recognized in a movie and portrayed as a fun and heroic bunch. Movies like Playing With Fire certainly have a place in today’s landscape. It’s good to have positive family-friendly stories that don’t have to be dark and serious. This is especially a good pick for the family movie night.
