Transaction: Chicago Fire FC agrees to transfer Carlos Terán to Clube Athletico Paranaense

“This is a great opportunity for Carlos to continue building his career,” said Chicago Fire FC Director of Football and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter. “We thank him for his contributions to the Club over the past five seasons and wish him the best moving forward.”

A bit of a surprise to see Terán moved, however, with two new acquisitions on the defense, someone was going to be the odd man out. Terán had spent a significant time with the Fire, since arriving in 2020 as a teenager from Colombia, he ended up playing in 87 matches over the course of five seasons.

When he was healthy, Terán was a quality and occasionally outstanding player. The probable reason the Fire are moving on from him is due to his inconsistency of play, he was prone to making fantastic plays and puzzling ones. Though, even if his play had high highs and low lows, it was his frequent injury issues that made him unavailable to suit up. He recently returned to the lineup after being out a few months due to injury.

All the best to Carlos, who was a fun locker-room personality and did a great job and commitment to really improving with his English. He’s still young and has plenty of potential, should he leave the injury bug behind him.
