TV Review: The Night Agent Season 2

The Night Agent season 1 was seriously good. And by that, I mean I got hooked watching the first episode until the last one. Many people also liked it, so when it was announced that it was renewed for season 2, of course, a lot of people got excited including me. Now that I have watched season 2, I have some thoughts that I would like to share with you guys. The bottom line is that I’m not happy with season 2, and I know a lot of people are with me on this.

The Night Agent is not available on other streaming services at the moment, only on Netflix. If you hate
spoilers, you can stop reading here. Spoilers are my thing, and I don’t want to ruin your streaming
experience. Let’s start!

Plot:

The Night Agent is about a low-level FBI agent who is responsible for manning a telephone located in the
basement of the White House. This phone never rang, but one night, it did, and Peter Sutherland was
the one on duty. His boring routine job suddenly turned into a thrilling task that gave him the
responsibility of finding the mole of the US government.

Peter was able to save the life of the president. In return, the president gave him the opportunity to
work as a field agent of the Night Action — the organization that uses the telephone he’s manning
whenever there’s an emergency or when they need help. However, in season 2, Peter was working on a
mission with a partner (who got killed) because apparently, there’s another mole in the government
that is helping another organization orchestrate a terrorist attack in New York.

They asked for help so they were given a designated pick-up zone. However, when they arrived, the
rebels were already waiting for them — which led Peter to the conclusion that there was another leak in
their operation. Someone within their own ranks had once again betrayed them.

If you’re planning to binge-watch this show, make sure to have a fast wireless service to actually enjoy
and understand the show — if you’ll like the entire story of course. Just a friendly tip!

Acting:

To be honest, the acting was subpar. And I mean it for all the characters. Rose Larkin was awful in the
first season but she was tolerable. In the second season, she was terrible. It’s the same with Catherine
Weaver. No expressions, no nothing. She’s simply there to deliver her lines and that’s it. I didn’t know if
it was just for me, but apparently, a lot of people actually disliked her acting. I think that since she also
had a lot of screen time, she contributed to how the show became a bit boring.

For Peter Sutherland (Gabriel Basso), I felt like he lacked the right emotions during some scenes that
could make more impact than it did. I still appreciate the effort of the supporting characters, as many of
them did really well, at least in the latter part of the series.

Takeaway:

While season 2 did not live up to the expectations of most of its viewers, the potential is there. It’s a
typical story of a good man trying to prevent a terrorist attack like what you often see on shows and
films on DISH TV. Since season one was based on the book, it had a better storyline than season 2
(which was only written for the sake of continuing the story). Also, the cast selection could be a lot
better.

Verdict:

Overall, I would rate The Night Agent season 2 a 5/10. I’d give it to them as the last few bits of the
season got me entertained, but it was generally unreasonably slow. There are also lots of characters that
make the show a bit hard to understand at first. It’s not yet too late to redeem the series as season
three is already underway. So hopefully, they learn from viewer feedback and make season three more worthy.
