Sports oftentimes have some of the most interesting stories and characters. The NFL is the most popular sport in America and the players that have stepped on the gridiron have made lasting impressions on millions of fans.
MGM+ NFL Icons series producer Paul Camarata joined me for a conversation about season 3 of the series. Paul Camarata discusses the selection process for the NFL legends featured, the process of putting the show together, his favorite interview, plus much more.
REAL TALK:
I’m a big fan of NFL Icons. Fantastic show. The third season features a fantastic selection of legends. It all starts out with Jim Brown, followed by Bill Cowher, Mike Singletary and concluding with Charles Woodson. I was able to see a couple episodes and I’m hooked on this season. Being a Bears fan I have a natural connection to Mike Singletary.
Paul Camarata and I spoke about that Singletary episode. I had never seen Singletary be so candid and transparent about his life and career, including some unflattering incidents. One of them being the Vernon Davis fiasco and the presser that followed. Fascinating stuff for any NFL fan that remembers the incident and what followed in the media.
Paul did mention that he did interview Singletary for the show and it was one of his favorite conversations he’s ever had for the show. My favorite episode was the Singletary, but they are all so compelling.
I was curious about the selection process for the show and seems like there isn’t any set formula, it’s more of a combination of factors. He did mention that non-Hall of Fame players won’t be excluded, they just look for someone with a great story that made an impact on the game of football.
I highly recommend checking out the show. It’s top-notch storytelling and under an hour, so easy to digest.
NFL ICONS Season 3 premieres on October 21 with the Jim Brown, followed by Bill Cowher on October 28, Mike Singletary on November 4, and concluding with Charles Woodson on November 11 on MGM+
