TCM Host Ben Mankiewicz on the Possibility of an Awards Season in 2021
Due to the circumstances surrounding the world, the 2020 Turner Classic Movies Classic Film Festival in Hollywood has been cancelled, however, the festival will take place virtually, beginning on April 16 through April 19.
I was able to participate in the TCM Virtual Roundtable Interview conference call with Ben Mankiewicz (TCM Host), Pola Changnon (TCM General Manager) and Charlie Tabesh (TCM Senior VP of Programming).
Here is a clip of my question to Ben Mankiewicz in regards to the potential status of next year’s awards season. Here is what he said:
REAL TALK:
I feel Ben made some smart points. Nobody knows when we will start getting back to normal, much less getting prepared for award shows. I think we need to be okay with the possibility that there might not be an awards season next year. Like Ben mentioned the NCAA shut down March Madness, sports and all entertainment has stopped, so there is a certain possibility that awards season won’t be exempt if things aren’t back to normal by early next year.
TMC HOME CLASSIC EDITION FILM FESTIVAL:
The special edition of the Fest begins April 16 at 8pm (EST) continuing until April 19 on TCM and will include TCM hosts, special guests and events to watch on-air and follow on social media.Â
