‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Debut Trailer Analysis
Welcome to the danger zone, again. One of the most anticipated trailers just dropped. It’s been 33 years since Top Gun debuted in theaters. In 2020, the wait ends. Today the first trailer for Top Gun: Maverick released. Tom Cruise is back as the rebellious sky speedster, Maverick. So what to make of the trailer? Here are some key breakdowns:
INITIAL REACTION:
It’s a good teaser. The trailer gives away little plot details, besides the fact that Maverick is back for a final call. There are a lot of plane shots of Maverick handling the jets. Some really cool visuals. Looked retro, which is a nice touch and homage to the original.
WHAT WE KNOW AND DON’T KNOW:
So we know Cruise is back as Maverick and the lead in the movie. There are numerous flight scenes taking place in the desert, mountains and over water, so you know they will be changing up locations and landscapes. Jon Hamm appears briefly and Ed Harris gives Maverick a sten pep talk. No sign of Miles Teller and Jennifer Connelly. Of course there is the typical Cruise motorcycle cruise also.
TRAILER SUCCESS OR FAILURE:
I would say this was a successful trailer. It didn’t reveal much, but gave you an impression of what the feel for the movie will be. I expect lot of cool flying stunts, especially with Cruise involved. It looks like it will have more action than the original, but hopefully not over-the-top.
