Amanda Peet was a huge 90s star and still is going strong in the industry. In Fantasy Life she connects with writer/director and actor Matthew Shear. The story is about a fading famed actress, played by Peet, who finds a symbiotic connection with her kids babysitter, played by Shear.
I had a chance to speak with Amanda and Matthew about the film. This interview was conducted days before Amanda revealed her battle with cancer. Wishing all the best to Amanda, who was so present, engaging and self-deprecating in our conversation. Matthew was equally fun and engaging. It’s easy to see how these two, who have several things in common, including being New Yorkers, found each other to star with in this film.
This was a fun time for me getting to speak with Amanda and Matthew. Amanda found a way to relate to her character and joked about being a 90’s has been, which is anything but true! Matthew shared the funny story about his basketball skills. I just loved how these two embrace their personalities and are comfortable being themselves.
The movie is relatable, since they are playing relatable people. The film’s message to me was about life being messy and how finding small gestures of being seen can give you a whole new perspective and newfound hope.
