One of the biggest MLS signings in history this past week saw Korean superstar and Tottenham Hotspur legend Son Heung-Min join LAFC. Monumental signing for the league and LAFC. Son comes over still in his prime and ready to take LAFC right back to the top.
Son made his MLS and LAFC debut in Chicago on Saturday night against the Fire, at a sold-out SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, IL. Post-match, LAFC head coach Steve Cherundolo, veteran defender Ryan Hollingshead and Son spoke about the match and the big debut. The interviews are in their entirety below. Shoutout to the very accomodating LAFC communications team for making it all happen.
SON HEUNG-MIN:
Son was fantastic to speak to. He could have easily skipped this postgame interview, with all the travel and the whirlwind of a week he had, but he spoke to all the media in attendance and on Zoom. Easy to see why he’s so beloved. I really respect the man and the player. There is no doubt he’s here to make an impact in the MLS and focus on getting LAFC back to lifting trophies. It’s an exciting time for the club and certainly for the LAFC fans.
STEVE CHERUNDOLO (Head Coach):
Coach was littered with Son questions and he handled them great. It’s a huge signing and Steve understands the importance of Son on the club and for the league. The important nugget of information coach mentioned was that the club is still going to be active in the transfer market, looking for help at center back, midfield and in the attack. Signing Son doesn’t mean the end of spending and improvement of the club. Look out for more roster moves ahead.
RYAN HOLLINGSHEAD (Defender):
Ryan is such a blast to speak with. Charming, big and fun personality. He’s been through several big name additions at the club since he arrived in LA in 2022. His glowing remarks about Son speak volumes. Ryan really articulated well what Son’s arrival has meant to him and his teammates. LA is making a push and have a couple of games to make-up in league play, Ryan stressed the importance of being able to focus on the MLS campaign going forward.
Son won’t make his home debut until August 31st against San Diego. Next couple road games await, starting with a trip to New England on August 16th.
