Apple TV+ just unveiled one of the most anticipated series of 2023, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. The “Godzilla” show is far more than just a Godzilla story, it’s the story of the Monarch organization and the monster-verse.

I had a chance to speak with two important figures behind the show, Executive Producer Tory Tunnell and VFX Supervisor Sean Konrad. We discussed the special effects for Monarch, future seasons, globe-trotting story, plus much more.

REAL TALK:

Sean and Tory were great. Very knowledgeable and experts at their craft. Aside from being a producer on the show, Tory is also co-owner of Safehouse Pictures with her husband Joby Harold (also executive producer on the series). As you can imagine she was tasked with a lot to deliver as she called it a globe-trotting adventure. That she did. The show spans continents, with storylines and ripple effects spanning the globe.

Sean did acknowledge his influence from the Godzilla movies on what he wanted to do with the show. He made an interesting point of fitting the monsters on the TV screen, which is something I didn’t think about as the monsters were previously exclusive mainly to movies. Sean was complimentary of Apple and their influence and help with the production.

Looks like the plan right now is to see how the show does (I expect it to be a hit) and then proceed with further seasons and storyline announcements. The show is rumored to be a lead-in to the future monster movies. For those that don’t know, the show’s story is sandwiched between one of the movies and the future ones to come.

I really enjoyed what I’ve seen from the show. It’s filled with cliffhangers and multiple storylines connecting. Solid cast. Impressive CGI. Cool-looking monsters. See it.

MONARCH: LEGACY OF MONSTERS premieres globally with the first two episodes on Friday, November 17 on Apple TV+, followed by one episode every Friday through January 12
