One of the most highly anticipated horror-comedies of 2023, The Blackening, is coming to theaters on June 16, right in time for Juneteenth. I spoke to the cast of the film on their promotional tour for the film. It’s one of the funniest and engaging interviews I’ve done.
I spoke to the stars of the film Jay Pharoah, X Mayo, Melvin Gregg, Jermaine Fowler and Dewayne Perkins. No need to talk any further, watch for yourself, enjoy.
REAL TALK:
This interview (if you wanna even call it that) was an absolute trip. It was fun, entertaining, spontaneous and wacky. I had a blast. This cast is hilarious and have great chemistry, seem like one big family. Aside from X Mayo, it was my first time speaking with them.
I started with Jay and it set-off a tsunami with everyone going after Jay. Now Jay has to a party to plan hosting his castmates haha. I think there were a dozen side convos taking place during this interview and I was all for it all.
So I tried to get clever with a quiz for the group, but it soon backfired on me and they reversed it onto me and I was on the receiving end of the questions. I think I got a couple correct, but failed miserably. I deserved that haha. It was so fun and the banter was great from their end, they didn’t let up and lit me up on it, deservingly so, wouldn’t expect anything less. Shoutout to Jermaine for being a fellow wrestling fan!
Watching the The Blackening isn’t much different than hanging out with them. It’s wild, bonkers, hilarious and entertaining. Think of your favorite horror-comedies like Scary Movie, this is a mashup of a bunch of them. The cast is great, it’s a true ensemble. Everyone involved has legitimate comedy chops. It’s a fun popcorn flick and horror satire, so check it out and enjoy it.
THE BLACKENING is out in Theaters nationwide on Friday, June 16, 2023
