Wouldn’t it be nice to find yourself in the middle of a nice warm summer? I have a solution. Head on out to the movies and check out the summer coming-of-age film, Snack Shack.
The summer feels and memories of those teenage years flocking to your mind, as they did for writer and director Adam Rehmeier as he based the film on his experiences in Nebraska City, Nebraska in the early 1990’s.
The cast features some of the premiere young talents in Hollywood. I spoke to Adam Rehmeier, stars Gabriel LaBelle (The Fabelmans), Conor Sherry, Mika Abdalla and Nick Robinson. They shared stories of working together and the filming of the Snack Shack.
GABRIEL LABELLE & CONOR SHERRY:
These guys were great. Gabe was a bit more shy and reserved, maybe because I put him on the spot with the working out and physique thing, but the guy is in great shape! Conor shared the line of the day when he said that the bouncers in LA didn’t think he looks old enough. That got an immediate laugh out of Gabe and I. Learned that gabe is a big healthy eater, thanks to Conor for sharing that. Gabe and Conor had good chemistry together and were enjoyable on-screen and talking to them.
MIKA ABDALLA & NICK ROBINSON:
To me, Nick seems like the poster boy for coming-of-age films, that’s a compliment. He’s been in several films that can be categorized as that. He’s a heck of an actor and been a fan of his work. Mika, I was first aware of from the Hulu film Sex Appeal. Mika has definite star potential and Nick is well on his way to being that. Nick seems like a chill guy. Mika seemed laid back also. She did nearly out herself on trying to take home some of the wardrobe form the set, haha.
ADAM REHMEIER (Director):
Adam seems like a really nice and cool vibe. Down-to-earth kinda Midwestern guy. My kinda people. I mean it’s pretty awesome and wild that the movie is basically his life story and teenage years. What a time it was to grow up early 1990’s America. I can’t believe that Adam and his buddies brewed beer at home. Incredible. Talk about young rebellious entrepreneurs! He did a great job on the film and it felt relatable and reminiscent in many ways.
