Hulu’s latest hottest show is the whodunit murder-mystery series Death and Other Details (premieres January 16). The detective series is sure to leave viewers guessing on a weekly basis. I spoke with the creators of the series Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams, as well as one of the stars of the series Lauren Patten.

REAL TALK:

Lauren Patten was a lot of fun to chat with. She had a very engaging personality. She was transparent, especially discussing her intimate scene. It’s cool to find out there were several intimacy coordinators on set and to Lauren’s delight, they also had queer intimacy coordinators. Looks like Hollywood is doing it right these days.

Lauren shared that she wasn’t aware of all the fates and futures of her fellow actors characters on the show. Which isn’t all that surprising with an episodic show like this, where the murder mystery aspect is protected and episodes air on the weekly basis. I’m sure Lauren knows how it all goes down by now, but while filming, that could have been a different story.

I liked the response she gave on if she’d hypothetically befriend her character “Anna” if they had a chance encounter. Fun stuff. Looking forward to seeing more of Lauren on-screen.

It wasn’t hard to spot how Heidi and Mike have a great working relationship and how they were sharing the same thoughts and responses. They did a great job on this show. I asked them about the keys to a good murder-mystery and they had an immediate response to that. They know this genre well and it shows.

So Heidi clarified that if there will be a second season, it will have a new story and characters. That would follow The White Lotus and Kenneth Branagh’s Detective Hercule Poirot series. I like that concept, seems to work for this genre. I’m excited to see how Death and Other Details will evolve and conclude.

DEATH AND OTHER DETAILS premieres on January 16 on Hulu (first two episodes), then one each Tuesday, with a 2 episode finale on March 5
