EMERGENCY Filmmakers Talk Collaboration and Cultural Perspectives
Collaboration creates good work. That’s what director Carey Williams and writer KD Davila did to turn their short Emergency into the new Prime Video feature.
I spoke to Carey and KD on their press day junket about collaborating to make Emergency happen. How racial diversity and cultural backgrounds contributed to the story and their work. They also offer new filmmakers some advice on utilizing collaboration in their work.
REAL TALK:
I found Carey and KD to be very easy going and fun. I asked them about how their diverse backgrounds helped them craft the story and work together. I think you can see the fruits of their labor in the film and it works well.
It was interesting to hear them talk about how they work together, obviously they have a good repertoire having worked previously so there is trust, comfort and understanding, I’d imagine. Carey shared a fun story how he just let KD do her thing and he adjusted to it.
KD also shared some practical and important advice to filmmakers.
