As we continue to live in uncertainty due to the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone is watching more movies, shows and looking for new content to discover. Don’t sleep on documentaries folks. I had a chance to check out three very compelling and relevant documentaries recently. They all have something interesting and educational that you can take away from and learn. Check out the following must-see docs:
STREETLIGHT HARMONIES:
Have you heard of Doo-Wop music? I know I wasn’t aware of it prior to seeing Streetlight Harmonies. Doo-wop basically laid the stage for majority of the music genres we listen to today. Everything from R&B to Pop! It originated among African-American youth in the 1940’s in inner-cities of Detroit, New York and Philadelphia, to name a few.
This fascinating documentary takes you to the humble beginnings where these amazing and ear-soothing melodies were born. The documentary introduces us to some legendary bands such as The Drifters, The Platters, Little Anthony and the Imperials, as well as Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers. Icons that unfortunately sometimes get forgotten or are unknown to the current generation.
This Doo-wop music lead to the creation of Rock & Roll, Rhythm & Blues, Hip Hop, and even Pop. The film features interviews and testimonials from the past and present musical greats that speak about how this music influenced them. Rock n’ Roll Hall of Famers and Grammy winners featuring the likes of Brian Wilson (Beach Boys), Brian McKnight and Lance Bass of NSYNC.
Streetlight Harmonies is really a must-see documentary for any music lover of any genre and from any generation. I found it to be enjoyable, informative, fun and certainly entertaining.
