Review: Deadpool 2 Blu-ray

Deadpool transformed the superhero genre. The R rated nature of the first one and Ryan Reynold’s unapologetic dialogue and persona as Deadpool opened the doors for a movie like Logan to flourish and give fans the kind of Logan they always wanted. Deadpool 2 delivers similar style and tone as in the first one, with the addition of some new characters, such as, Cable. Here is how does Deadpool 2 stacks up:

ENTERTAINMENT:

I found Deadpool 2 to be a lot of fun. You still get all the crazy Deadpool antics, lots of cursing, gore and a ton of laughs. Some of the complaints about Deadpool 2 were that it had too much romance and sappy content. While that’s true, I couldn’t disagree any more on that being a detriment. In fact the romantic between Wade (Reynolds) and Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) angle was clearly established in Deadpool, they just elaborated on it in Deadpool 2. These two and their romance are the core of the Deadpool movies, why wouldn’t they expand on it and give more credence and insight into Deadpool.

The addition of Josh Brolin as Cable is a good one. Cable is cool and imposing. Just the kind of badass the character is known to be. He adds a new layer and dimension to the Deadpool crew. The new X-Force team additions include Domino (Zazie Beetz), with the returning Colossus and Negasonic Teenage Warhead. It’s a badass group of superhero misfits.

FEATURES:

So, you basically HAVE to buy the Blu-ray ‘Super Duper Cut’. It is loaded with bonus content and kick-ass special features. It includes both the theatrical and unrated cut. The unrated version adds 15 minutes to the film. That in itself makes it a must see/get. The following are the bonus features:

  • Gag Reel
  • Deleted/Extended Scenes
  • Until Your Face Hurts: Alt Takes
  • The Most Important X-Force Member
  • Deadpool Family Values: Cast of Characters
  • David Leitch Not Lynch: DIrecting DP2
  • Audio Commentary
  • Deadpool’s Fun Sack 2

SHOULD YOU SEE IT:

This isn’t much of a debate. If you’re a Deadpool fan, then there is no reason not to get a copy, especially the Blu-ray, for the unrated cut. I found Deadpool 2 to be just as enjoyable as the first one, but with added characters and more romance (which I personally liked). The gags are there. My favorite being the audition scene where Deadpool is auditioning and assembling the X-Force team. The entertainment factor is there. The twist at the end will get your attention. Deadpool 2 is cool, but for some reason it was underrated. I’m here to tell you it’s as enjoyable as the first one, so check it out and give it a chance.

‘DEADPOOL 2: SUPER DUPER CUT’ SCORE: 9/10
